Having been a golf coach for 10 years and being in the sport for 29 years, here is what i feel beginner golfers should focus on when they start golf.

1. Putting
2. Chipping
3. Full Swing

Putting introduces and teaches golfers to the basics of grip, stance, posture. Putting also tests beginner golfers' hand eye coordination by getting them to hit the ball from point A to B.

Chipping introduces the concept of ball striking to the golfer, teaching them how to properly catch the ball on a downward trajectory.

The Full Swing comes after learning putting and chipping. By now, the golfer would know how to control the direction of the ball and how to properly strike the ball.

This would help golfers learn the sport at a faster pace, as compared to learning the full swing from the start.
